First Ride after Pan Mass

I finally got off my behind and rode my bike this morning for the first time after the PMC. I met Ahmet Ozalp at the Arlington head of the minute man trail and rode to Bedford, then did a big loop - Carlisle (Rt. 225), Chelmsford (Rt. 27) , then back to Bedford (Rt. 4) - a 56 mile ride in total. I was anxious to find out how I’d perform after almost 3 weeks of no exercise, but it went pretty well. Unlike my colleagues Dennis and Paul, Ahmet did not get antsy and rode away leaving me in the dust. Instead he was kind enough to match my pace and push me a little. He also gave me good pointers along the way.It was a very pleasant ride and despite my worries, it looks like I may have even improved a bit. I think we are going to do the Charles River Wheelman, Fall Century on September 16 before the Rodman Ride for the Kids. I asked Ahmet to join us. We’ll need to give him a Spark Jersey.

This is map of our ride this morning:

This is a comparison of my pace the first time I did this ride almost a month ago. The x-axis is time, the y-axis is elevation; the red line is the same ride about a month ago, the blue line is this morning. It looks like I did it 1 hour faster! I suspect 1/2 of it is improvement and 1/2 of it riding with a friend.
